Electric fence

Has anyone else used a electric fence around their duck run to keep out predators? I realized my ducks were not using their house to sleep at night they were staying in their pond. I had a electric fence around the pen but found out the charger was not working. I remembered my dad had told me about a older way of using a light bulb as a electric fence so I tried it. Yesterday when I went to go feed my ducks I found a raccoon draped across the fence wire dead. This morning I found my first duck egg in the duck house after I finally locked them up in it incase another predator actually got in with them. I know this is kinda long and I am looking for any feedback on the use of electric fence around the duck pen.

I recall my Dad did this when I was a small child would love to see you your setup

I just drew this using paint on my computer. i will add actual photos of it this afternoon when i get back home from work if you want to see how it is all connected on my pen. I used the yellow insulators to keep my pen wire and my hot wire separated. I used a extension cord as my wire I just cut in the light socket. Which also acts as a means of disconnect (will remove power from the hot wire) when you remove the bulb. The wire I used was the solid electric fence wire from TSC. not sure if it will work with the braided wire but I don't see why it would not.

You’re awesome:celebrate Also are you able to focus the current through a single wire? I greatly appreciate it and look forward to seeing how you did this!
i only use one wire which is separated from my actual fence so yes all the current from the bulb is forced through the one wire. you can also change how much current is going through the wire by changing the wattage of the bulb. lower wattage bulb less knock down force being put out. i just used a 100w bulb because it is what i had.

I have the 100' electric net fence from premier 1 with a solar charger. I've have my ducks in there for 6 months. I've seen raccoon tracks casing the perimeter and a few dogs have been tagged and now won't go near it. Coyotes and bears around as well no issues. Two weeks ago came home to half a duck stuck in the fence. Bobcat jumped right over it and got one of my girls. I think it may have got hit by the electricity when the carcass got stuck as it hasn't been back. Having a difficult time trusting the fence now though. Also, my ducks have figured out they can fly over it. A bobcat in there with them motivated them enough to fly out even with the fence hot.

my main fence is just regular 5 foot chain link fence with a single strand of hot wire around the top and the bottom using the 5" insulators for t-post and chain link fence. i have a video on my profile that shows part of my pen and fencing.

That is so freaking cool! The drawing makes sense to a point, but I’m having trouble understanding the connection to the light bulb socket itself. Maybe I need some pictures or a little more detail in the drawing (I’m visual learner) lol.

It is a weather proof single bulb holder I bought from tractor supply like this. View attachment 1237509
So basically your cutting in the black wire (hot) from the extension cord to the black wire to the light socket. Next the white wire from the light socket to the electric fence wire. Then take the white wire (neutral) from the extension cord and run it to the pen fence. Lastly, take the green wire and run it to a ground. Am I on the right track?!
