Electric wire instead of apron?

Forgive this old lady. It was way easier to dig a trench in the sand and bury the welded wire. Nothing has attempted to dig where I buried the wire. There is a place where I did not bury any wire and a tortoise dug under the fence and got into a pen the other day. Here is an aborted attempt.

I have to say, of all the things I think about maybe trying to dig under a run, tortoise was not on my bingo card. Do they eat eggs or chicks?

No, the tortoise is harmless. When I went to take it out later it had already found it's way out. I found where it had dug under the fence. Apparently where it dug the electric either doesn't affect it of it went under the electric wire. I have a few tortoise dens around on my property. I gave this one an apple.

Nice :) I've always thought well of tortoises, and I hadn't remembered ever seeing or hearing of them eating eggs, but your post made me wonder if I'd missed a critical bit of information! We see them on the zoo and vet shows, I think they're so fascinating, and they can live a long time!
