Electric wire to keep chickens IN

Covering their yard isn't an option. It is too large an area to cover. Plus, I'm not sure how to reach the top of trees??

There are no trees where they like to jump out. Just the 6.5ft fencing. I considered placing fencing along the top between their covered run and the yard fence. But I was concerned they would just hit the top if that and walk to the edge and fly out lol. Sometimes they jump to the top of the run and then fly out the yard. So I'm not sure if that would work either.

If they could just learn to stay in our yard all would be well. But they like to make the long trek to the front and back down to the neighbor's yard

There is no way to cover this area. That said, this is where they like to jump out of their yard. They will pace back and forth in this corner until they make the leap up and over. Once a few have made it out, the rest just stay pressed against the fence right here, hoping to just melt their way through the fence lol. They always make their jump from the left of the door (there isn't an opening to the right, this photo was during the in between phase of piecing it all together). And if they don't just jump the fence right there, then they jump on their covered run and fly over the fence. (white strings are on the OUTSIDE of the fence, so they weren't using that as help. Plus, it was also removed shortly after the completion of the entryway.)

This spring I am planning to put up a 4' fence to make a larger area for chickens along with other livestock. I am planning on running a hot wire above the top of my fence also maybe 4"-6" higher. Hope it works. Good luck to you.
This is my plan! Any update on if this idea worked for you?
