a pipe, or tube, for protecting electric wires or cables

if you know nothing about electrical the nI would say just run a extension cord, or hire someone to pull wires.

That's not advice I would give to anybody... Even if a permit is not required, it would be in your best interest to have it done properly and not haphazardly. Running an extension cord through conduit is not proper. Besides, by the time you dig and bury the conduit the most expensive and labor intensive part is done. For a conduit installation you might as well put in the appropriate wire, it will more than likely be cheaper than an extension cord.

and you are SOOO correct....I must have misread that he was planning to bury it anyway...my mistake. I think my last statement makes the most sense "If you know nothing about electrical then I would say just run a extension cord, or hire someone to pull wires"

I am a she. just saying.

and I just wanted to know how it is done. if it is a really involved process I wont bother, I have too much of a sense of self preservation to do that. I'll deal with the smell.

Electrical is something you want done right. If you want to do it yourself, rather than hire an electrician, I would at least get a good book on the subject. Home Depot, Lowes, etc. have a lot of good, well illustrated books.
