Hi all,
I'd really like to see some detailed pics of your electric fencing set-ups.
around the bottom, around the top, up and over, down under, the controllers, everything !

also include some descriptions, power levels, brands, models, what you like, dislike, or would do differently next time...

THANKS !,
Ron

We have a 25x23 or so run. It is made out of welded wire 2x3 inch holes. Found out the hard way it is
1. Large enough of a hole for weasels (lost 2 ducks in the spring)
2. 6 ft is not high enough to keep fox from climbing (Lost a BO 2 days before Christmas)
3. Winter will bring out the hawks, even if they never bothered the previous 6 months (lost an EE 2 days after Christmas)

Due to all the snow, the girls are on lock down in the coop until we get a chance to re-vamp the coop. We plan to run wire 8 inches off the ground, then maybe 3 feet of the ground and again at the top of the 6 ft fence. This will be connected to a fencer (electric charger) that we've picked up from Tractor Supply, but haven't had a chance to install yet. We will probably be covering the top of the run with chicken wire...not strong enough for coons, etc (that's where the charger will come in) but should be strong enough to protect against the hawks. Sorry I can't post photos of a completed project, but hope this gives you some ideas.

I don't like Zebra brand fence controllers.
I buy strictly Fi-Shock.

Go with the plug in kind whenever you can, because the solar charger kind wear out pretty quickly.

The better the ground = the better the shock. I put ground rods next to my air conditioner unit because it stays wet there all summer long - providing a better ground in otherwise dry conditions.

"next time" I will use high tensile strength wire (even if I'm not building that kind of fence) because I used to have a Boxer next door that would crash through my fence to break the wires and stop the shock. (I eventually put a stop to it by electrifying a lightweight chain)

Sorry, but it's not something I have ever bothered to take pix of -- perhaps you could ask whatever specific questions you're interested in, to get a better response?

If you want general installation advice, they have a pretty good tutorial and diagrams at www.premier1supplies.com or other electric fence mfr websites.

As far as brand etc, honestly I do not believe it makes very much difference (except that the very cheapie brands don't always last real long), what really matters is choosing the right size and type of charger, the right type of fence material, installing it *correctly*, and checking it every day or week to catch problems before you have dead or loose animals.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
