Electrolyte Users!!!

This applies only to Duravet "Vitamins & Electrolytes - Water Soluble Powder Concentrate" (Blue label):

Per label instructions, I have made the following calculations using a precision scale:

Drinking Water: Dissolve 1/2 package in 55 gallons.

I have the 4 oz package.

2 oz in 55 gallons = .036 ozs. per gallon
This works out to be about a scant (a little less than) 1/4 teaspoon per gallon.

My chicks are arriving in 2 weeks so I plan on using this ratio for first 3 weeks unless someone here recommends otherwise.

If you read the labels, most products are mostly salt (sodium chloride, in several forms). It's meant to be used very short term for chicks suffering shipping stress, for example. Salt overload causes fluid retention, among other things, and can cause death. It's especially a problem in Cornishx meat birds, who die of heart failure quite often. If you use it, at least offer plain water too. Mary

I wish this link still worked. I am wondering if that dose is still valid or if durvet has changed their formula.
