Electrolyte Users!!!

Quote:
they don't really say if that is for the stock solution to be metered with automatic waterers do they? I'm thinking the 3/4 makes the gallon of stock solution to be further diluted with the auto waterer????? They should state for use as drinking water or stock solution

i buy the sav a chick kind at TSC it's one pack per gal water I was afraid to use anything else because I couldn't find how much powder for x amount of water. I usually put a little gatorade in my dogs water in the summer time when it's really hot i use 1/4 c per gallon water

This is Great info. I have used it for years, very sparingly though. I recently had a peacock that did not look too good from allergies and all I think. I took her waterer out and cleaned it good with hot soapy water, rinced it good and filled it with a solution of Electrolyte and water and in about a week, she was good as new and jumping up on the rafters and all. I have also used it when my hens look a little sluggish and it perks them right up. so yes, it is like E-mergency for us as someone asked earlier.

i also use about 3/4 tsp per gal. I used it this winter when my hens were looking a bet washed out. It seemed to perk them up and started to redden their combs again. now I use kefir. the combs are the prettiest they have looked in a long time.

I feed it to them every winter and once a month or so in the summer. And always to chicks. My dad did the math for me off of the durvet package and I always give them a heaping 1/8th tps per gallon. Nobodys died yet! But I would think a whole package per gallon would not be good!
I only go through about 2-3 packages per year. So its a cheap way to give them a boost I think

IF you use High Performance Poultry Pak, Durvet says:

Treating for reduced food intake - 1 tsp per 10 gallons water (One packet makes 240 gallons ) *(1/8 tsp per 160oz or 20 cups or 10 pints of water)
Treating for extreme conditions - 1 tsp per 5 gallons water (One packet makes 120 gallons) *(1/8 tsp per 80oz or 10 cups or 5 pints of water)

I wanted to share the dosage for the Poultry Pak.

I just bought some of the Durvet electrolytes today and I had the same question, that's why I came on to the site. I added 1 tsp. per gallon and that looks like it's about right. I bought it because my girls are not laying and are just getting through molting so I asked at the feed store if there was any kind of multi-vitamin I could give them and this is what he recommended. I don't think I'll use it for a long period of time, just a couple weeks max.
The dosage info on the package is very confusing. I'm really glad I read this thread

Thank you for this information! But I am wondering if I am learning this too late... We just made the same mistake of misreading the label on the Durvet E & V pack that several members have confessed to making. We got our 3 chicks 2.5 days ago from the ranch store, and they were acting fine until tonight.

On the suggestion of the store, we started the E & V right away - so the chick have had 2.5 days of a pretty good overdose. My question is - has anyone done this and had their chicks survive?? And what are the symptoms of an electrolyte & vitamin "overdose"? One of our chicks has very labored, "wet" breathing and is lying down more then she has since we got her; another has less labored breathing but is starting to sound wet; and the other chick seems fine (so far). I realize these could also be symptoms of other illness. They are on the medicated starter crumble. And of course, we replaced water in waterer with clean water.

Thanks to anyone who has information to help!
