Hello,

I have 11 cayuga and swedish ducklings, they are 2 weeks old and growing like crazy.

I have two questions, one is about the electrolytes I was told to add to their water along with the poultry vitamins. How long should I give them the electrolytes? They have been getting it daily so far.

Also, I'm curious about when its ok to get them out to their coop? We have just (almost) completed a really awesome duck coop and run. All secure and predator proofed. If we add our heat lamp at nights can they go outside soon? What have others done?

Thanks!

Where are you located? How cold is it getting at night?

I have never offered anything but fresh, clean water. I'm sure electrolytes won't hurt, but I also don't think they are necessary.

I know I feel the sentiment. After the first time, I vowed to never brood ducklings indoors ever again!

Ha, yah, its adorable but messy and crazy. They are in a kiddie pool surrounded by a dog pen fencing in our coat room

We are on Vancouver Island, Canada. It gets down to about 11-12 C at night. For the Americans out there, thats about 53 degrees F

Aren't they just disgusting? I love them, though!

They'll be fine outside without heat. I'm in WA state, and just gave a group of 5 day old ducklings to a friend. They are outside with no heat, and they're thriving. So long as they have a good shelter, they'll cuddle up at night, and keep each other warm.
