Is this really a safe recipe for chickens?

my chickens combs and wattles were pale today and they acted like they didn’t feel very good. It’s been pretty hot and despite my water and frozen treats and shade they still get hot.

they rested awhile and eventually color started coming back.

hows the best way to get them to drink an electrolyte mixture?

It's probably safe enough, as long as you also leave plain water available to them.

Put the electrolyte-water in a bowl or extra waterer. Next to the normal water is probably the best place-- that will make it easy for them to try both.

I'm pretty sure that the right balance of electrolytes versus plain water changes depending on the temperature, the individual chicken, and other factors. So you want them to be able to balance it for themselves, drinking more or less of each one according to what they need.

That sounds like a complicated way to figure up a solution. Mix a few things up to have 9.5 tsp of powder, then put 6 tsp of it in gallon of water.....?

Or just mix this per gallon of water:
2 teaspoon sugar,
1/4 teaspoon baking soda,
1/4 teaspoon sodium chloride,
1/4 teaspoon potassium chloride.

I'm guessing you don't really want a gallon at a time--more like a cup or two, if you've only got a few chickens.

So mixing all the powders, then measuring part of it into the water would be easier than measuring 1/64 or even 1/16 teaspoon of some of them :)
