Electronet and turkeys

McMurray Hatchery is telling a friend of mine that electronet fencing won't work for turkeys.

They say that the turkeys just stand there and get shocked.

I have never heard this before, but I've also not tried my electronet on the turkeys. It worked great for last year's meaties.

I was wondering if the "stand there and get shocked" might be true of broad-breasted birds, but not the heritage turkeys.

Anyone know? Anyone use electronet to confine their turkeys?

I am planning on using it to keep the varmints out of the turkey pens...I'd like to know if it works too in 2 weeks all of mine can go out I don't want them to be fox food right away

I dunno about the "stand there and get shocked" part, that seems hard to believe (maybe depends on the charger?). But they sure will fly right over it!

Well no free rangin here so mine have clipped wings or they would be fox food I have to run hot wire around the bottom I just want them to have 1/3 of an acre to keep weeded and thought that would be an easy way to keep moving the pen as I already have those step in posts. Somehow I don't think they would just stand there unless they were caught up in the mesh but I don't know and as hard as it was to get mine I don't want to lose any when they are 10-12 weeks old....

I bought some to keep sheep in recently but it also keeps my Tom in. He got zapped once and has great respect for it now. I don't know about hens as I lost both of mine to a fox a month back.

We use electric netting around our chickens. In the morning, the netting keeps most of the chickens in, but some fly over. I have watched the chickens run into the net when the current is on, and it doesn't seem to bother them a bit. The primary purpose is to keep the chickens near the coop so they will lay their eggs there. When we walk by, they pile into the fence hoping to get treats.

Although the fence doesn't seem to shock the chickens, it does work on bobcats, dogs, and people. If your fence is supposed to keep the turkeys in, you might want to try something taller. Even with a clipped wing, turkeys can get some height.

I was going to get the 5ft high stuff and just for daytime use I am cooping them at night or when I'm not home. They will have good runs just wanted to be able to let them range around without them being bait for the foxes that run through my yard I know they get high even with clipped wings I have 10ft high stall walls that they like to roost on at night but they don't get out.

My neighbor has been using his for 2 years for turkeys and they do fine, they don't get shocked or any of the sort.

Of course my turkey pen has a single electric wire along the bottom to keep racoons and such out, and my turkeys stand on it and completely none affected...
all in all, the the electronet works fine, just dont try place electric wires.
