ELI5 Why do so many ppl treat chickens expendable??

I’m not wanting an argument I’m genuinely trying to understand. Why are chickens, especially roosters treated so expendable? (Not talking about broilers). I’ve seen and read so many ppl culling their chickens/unwanted roosters and throwing out the body with the garbage. Unwanted rooster, kill it, burn it or bury it. And just recently I read about a person who killed his roosters and used the body for bait. Can someone explain to me why this is acceptable? If it was a cat or dog it’d be cruelty to animals and illegal.

Probably because they are cheap, easy to get, and many people see them as objects without feelings. Chickens are my favorite animal, so it makes me very angry and sad how abused they are. Factory farms hatch millions of chicks a year just to kill all the males at birth and cram the hens in cages until slaughter. I understand not all rosters can be kept, but if you need to get rid of them that is not the way.

Some people are cruel, insensitive, ignorant and lots of other things that I am far too polite to say on a forum.

It’s a cruel world we live in with such a varied type of human that, unfortunately, some are just not nice.



However, there are always you, me and all the other good people in this world to try to give respect to all of those animals that are being ill treated or have been ill treated.

We must believe there are more of us than of them or we will sink

When an animal is considered "food", it is not given the same rights as a "pet". Which is sad, but unfortunately the way of the world.

I believe that all animals should be treated with decency and kindness.
All animals should be treated as pets until it is time to humanely terminate them, their remains to be utilized with dignity, for the continuation of life on earth.

Unfortunately, what else are you supposed to do with older birds or extra/aggressive males? A lot of times you can't give them away, and not everyone can/will process each and every bird. At least as Bait or soil food they're still being used

Unfortunately, what else are you supposed to do with older birds or extra/aggressive males? A lot of times you can't give them away, and not everyone can/will process each and every bird. At least as Bait or soil food they're still being used
