ELI5 Why do so many ppl treat chickens expendable??

Pics
I've had random chickens join my flock before and it doesn't bother me at all. My own are free to leave whenever they feel like it. Frankly if someone has to imprison their animals I don't think they should have animals in the first place
I try to give my chickens as much freedom to do what comes natural and build a healthy chicken culture.

I guess the flight thing is dependent on breed. My bantams are definitely faster than my standards, but they can not fly, at all. They’re very round fluffy stocky little things.
All chickens, unless they have some kind of issue, are able to fly. Saying your "round fluffy stocky little things" cannot fly at all is false. Do they get up on their roost? Yes? How do they do that? They fly. Flightless means they cannot fly, at all, and they never do. We humans are flightless, we neither have wings nor feathers. Chickens have wings and feathers, and they are not flightless.

As someone who has 9 roosters I can attest to the fact that's not always an option. I have posted mine on Craigslist, fb, and here even and nobody wanted them. I asked a lot of people I know. I've called the few sanctuaries I could find and they are full or don't want more roosters. I have the luxury and privilege of being able to keep them till I find a place for them to go but not everyone has that luxury.
I currently cannot find anyone who wants my cockerels that I desperately need gone. Anyone who does is either too far away or they are obviously abusive owners. Which scares me, because there are so many abusive owners here, including cockers. It seems I cannot find any good person who generally just wants at least one of my cockerels to have a happy life.

So sorry to hear of your situation.
What would I do ? 🤔
If I was emotionally attached to them in some way I would have to find a way to keep them if I couldn’t find them a good home. Emotions do that, screw our lives up and make things difficult.
Alternatively I would have them despatched and either pluck em, clean up, cook em and feed em to the dogs or cremate them.
I agree about the abusive owners and it is so hard to find the right place for your boys.

I wish you all the luck whichever you decide upon 🤗

I know what you mean, there's a few people on Facebook around here that seem to jump at the chance to take any rooster, you can't go to their place, they have to pick up, it's very suspicious

They do not fly to their roost. They climb up a roost ladder. They are frizzled and can NOT catch air with their wings. My statement was not false.

Furthermore penguins have wings and feathers and are indeed flightless. Did you really feel I had to told humans don’t have wings or feathers???
