Elizabethtown KY, Hatchery

Every year the owner of Glendale Hatchery (the one you are talking about) tells us this is his last year, but as far as I know he will be open this spring....by the way he is one of the last few Pearl Harbor survivors still kicking.

I was pleasantly surprised to logon here and saw a few folks from my home state of Kentucky. We use to raise chickens, turkeys, ducks,Boar goats, etc a few years back and decided to get back into raising chickens for eggs and maybe meat down the road in a few years. We ended up ordering ours this year from Murray McMurray. They've gone up in price quite a bit since we bought our last several years back. We decided to buy 25 Buff Orpingtons and 25 Black Jersey Giants. We're suppose to get them close to the middle of March 2014.I can't wait to get them they're so darn cute :)

Well over here in western ky I'm expecting an order from mcmurray in April. Got some Rouen ducks and white leghorns coming from them. Never ordered chicks through the mail before and so I'm trying out a few different hatcheries. I've got some RIR and white sultans coming from Meyer at the end of march. Then I've got some guineas coming from cackle in June. Going to be a bust spring/summer that's for sure. Hoping to maybe try some turkeys next year :)
Edited for spelling. Darn autocorrect...

Just so you know there is a small family hatchery in Gold City/Franklin area called Feathered Friends that I bought birds from last year. They ought to be advertising on bowling green craigslist last year. Those were some really nice healthy chicks:). I don't know how far afield you want to go, but keep an eye out for those folks if you're willing to head that way.

Thank you for the info. My son is wanting to get a few bantams (we call them banties....LOL) So I will keep an eye out for them. Murray McMurray's minimum order is 15 of them and we didn't want that many. Thanks again.

Good luck Jess. We're expecting ours from Murray McMurray the middle of March. We have ordered chicks thru the mail and it's relatively easy. As long as you make sure you're ready for the little fellows. Make sure you supply plenty water with something that will get their strength up (I believe Murray McMurray calls it "Quik Chik".) It's great stuff and they also recommend that you supply them with something called "Gro Gel" both of those really do help your chicks get a great start.

Thanks Lois. I did order the quick chic from mcmurray so I'll be sure to get that to them ASAP. Planning on getting my supplies to finish up my brooder and coop just as soon as we get a break in the ice and snow!
