Ella2025's Experiment Broody Hen Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Thank you! I'm happy to hear most hatched! Were they pullet eggs or big eggs?
I don't have a rooster so I got hatching eggs from a lady with BCM. They were adult sized eggs. My young mama is doing great, though! She's very attentive.

The only piece of advice I have is .. have a backup plan. Have a brooder on standby in case she abandons the babies (I think that's rare) and a separate pen available in case your other pullets mess with the mama and her babies. I tragically lost one that got pecked by one of my older hens. I ended up having to grab the mom and 3 remaining babies and keeping them in a growout pen instead of main coop. I plan on bringing them back in when the babies are a little bigger and can evade.

Here is the Bippy update I almost forgot to post!

I cleaned her coop yesterday and replaced the shavings in her box with straw. She made a cute little nest and is loving the straw. No super random stuff happening to her eggs today FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE 6 DAYS OF HER HATCH !!!

I took some hilarious photos.

Next candle is on sunday🐣 🐣 🐣

:love she's just too cute! But that face in the second picture! 😱🦖🤣
That's a pretty good pic, maybe submit it in the caption contest?

I'm jealous, my BR - her name is Dulcé, spanish for sweet or sweets. She is anything BUT sweet 🙄 she'd be terrifying 🦖 if she ever went broody!

It’s so hard to tell with blue eggs.
I never could see through mine well when I hatched CLs in the spring. It was just a wait and see, so I left them in the incubator.
If you begin to notice an odor in the incubator, then I’d remove whichever egg is bad.
Let’s grow little spice eggies!!!
