. Funny thing is dh had some in his military medical kit....it is part of their normal supplies I guess..
I wonder if you flush with a sterile saline eye drop/artificial tears(to flush the eye) if it would help until meds came?

You should check out first state vet supply online. That is where I buy my meds and they have a "chicken Dr." for any advice needed.

Best Wishes...

Ellie surely looks better in that last closeup and what a lovely couple she and BJ are. The fact that is was so blown up but not apparently bothering her makes me think allergy. I had one eye lid puff up huge but the other eye just fine. I asked the pharmacist what to do and he suggested cortisone NOT in the eye but a bit on the lid and around the eye. It did help very quickly. I had always heard never to use cortisone stuff IN the eye. He kept assuring me it was OKAY to use around the eye. He was right - the itching was driving me insane so I took his advice.

As you say (and we can see in photos) the actual eye is fine it is the skin(area) around it. Maybe something got in her eye and this was the reaction. I love hearing the examples of her personality.Maybe if you tried doctoring(whatever you use) if you wait till its starting to get dark she would be easier to work with OR, if you could put a towel around her to keep her from struggling, or flapping it would help.

I don't think it is something that is contagious., or her boyfriend would be showing signs, and I would think both eyes would have been affected by now. I'm subscribing to this until I hear she is perfectly okay again.

Krista, Ginny, cG, Nancy,
Thank you kindly for checking in on Ellie and for your good wishes.
Mayhem the last few days but finally am able to say hi. Ellie is doing well I think, that eye still not right but nowhere near as bad as the first photo. I've been waiting the arrival of meds from First State Vet Supply - oxytetracycline and Neo/Poly/Dex and can't imagine arrival any later than today. They advised using both. I think Ellie could probably be fine without any meds on this one but may do at least some of the eye ointment just to be sure this whatever-it-is gets kicked out of her system. She acts like the healthiest bird walking the earth - energetic, happy, oh so eager to explore the world, snarfing down her hot weather snacks of watermelon and berries and grapes - a vaccuum cleaner with feathers, really - so I feel pretty good about her overall well being. When she first presented with that eye and I had been told that she slept a lot off and on that day I wasn't sure what this was going to evolve into but thankfully it appears to have been some transient self limiting thing.
Like sweet Annie before her (RIP), there is really nothing to equal the beautiful sound she makes when I go to greet them in the morning - a soothing yet eager cooing sound that expresses her joy and anticipation of the door being opened, despite my accompanying this with an out of tune song "Good morning, good morning, I love you my babies". They generously forgive the singing as it's mitigated by a handful of lovely sunflower seeds mixed with millet, raisins, nuts and whatever else is in a scrumptious bird seed mix that they go crazy for each morning and eve.
And today, finally a break in the Amazon heat (enjoy it Ginny!) just in time for me to haul my butt to a grimy office, but I know at least they will relish the day.
Thank you for keeping me company in this latest feathered friend adventure.
