Em - 1 Possum - 0 **Updated w/pics**

Love those pix!
My mom had a few possums as pets. One even cost $4000 for an experiemental surgery it needed.
Possums to me are like giant rats

Rooster-Red, let me get this straight: you put cat food out on your porch, opossum are attracted to the cat food, and then you sneak out onto the porch and grab them with your bare hands. Is that the gist of it?

I can hear that theme song to The General's Daughter (movie) playing in the back of my head.

I'm afraid to ask, but what do you do with them after you've caught them? God they look terrorized.

I catch them right behind the jaw, so there is no way those teeth can get ahold of me.

Speed is more important than distraction, though it can help to keep its attention elsewhere and it helps to have good aim too. Just have to watch very closely for the right moment to make your move.

Rooster-red, some of those possums are huge!!

Anyway, I had to go get pics with the cell phone because Vista hates me and my digital won't connect.

So, here is a shot of the 2x4 cross bar by the nestbox where the possum was eating the eggs.

From the other side, with the spent shell.

More collateral damage. I use these strips of corrugated siding over the nest boxes so the poop doesn't pile up on the tops.

The plywood damage didn't show well on the cell, and there is a nice inch thick coat of ice on the outside of the coop, so I wasn't able to get good pics of the plywood damge.
Just to put into perspective, that is 2 inches of wood simply sheared away from a shotgun blast from about 8 feet. I imagine there is an equally large hole in the floor, I just didn't feel like digging through the pine and straw to find it.
The coop seriously needs mucked out. It's been a long winter.

Rooster-red, those are great pictures.

You're not by chance related to Red Conner from GA that moved to CO are you? I had a friend, Red Conner, that resembled you a bit. And I can easily picture him catching a possum with his bare hands.
