Emaciated Hen

I usually provide deep straw for a hen that is not roosting. When they get to that point, sadly their time is usually limited, so if you have a place to make her comfy that would be good.

She seems to be near the end or close although not too sure. Currently she is low on energy. This morning was the same thing but she got better once she was in the sun for a few minutes to warm up so hoping she does the same thing again. I'm not too sure she will make it but I will be continuing her care in hopes she does make it

I'm sorry that she's declining.

If you lose her, sending the body to your state lab will give you more information about what was going on with her.

Thank you for your help. Not too sure she will survive the day as she seems to be declining quite a bit. She is currently with her flock under their favorite lemon tree. They aren't bothering her so I thought it would be best to leave her with friends rather than alone.

She walked! I just checked up on her and she was able to walk from the lemon tree all the way to the coop door about 30 feet away. She must have done it in increments because she was pooped.

I have some news. Earlier today my hen passed away in the coop. By then her comb became fully purple. I must say I wasn't too surprised of this outcome although I did wish she would recover. Thank you so much for all your help! I really appreciated it and it helped me so much! ❤

I'm sorry about your hen, you did what you could for her

I'm so sorry for your loss. The progressively purple comb was an indication that something was drastically wrong. You did the right thing letting her be with the flock, in my opinion.

I agree with you @micstrachan as I think she was happier being able to be with the flock than being by herself
