Embarassing rooster question...

I have another question, I am not allowed to keep Roosters but I ordered straight runs of a few breeds, I have read that castrating a rooster will allow for better growth in regards to "meat". If it has no parts how does one castrate the roo?

I have a question...... I have a buff roo, dunno what kind he was a packing p nut! he likes to lay in my hand, Can you see where this is headed? LOL Wel He Is ONLY 9 weeks old!!!! But the other night...... I lowerd my hand as usual to let him jump on. He did but this time he bit my finger and started to do his lil (buisness shake) dance...... He's only 9 weeks!!!!!! What gives??? is this normal adolescent activity???

God bless!

I have a desert tortoise who does that too. I just tell everyone they can only pet the big one (the male).

A rooster doesn't have a penis, but he does have internal testes. That's the part they remove during caponizing.

I suppose because it only takes 5 seconds(?) for a rooster to do his thing, its easy for him to forget doing it. That must be why he runs the same hens ragged.

I wouldn't allow a cockerel to do that, period. He's treating you as he would a pullet/hen. When you don't behave the way he thinks you should (when he's older) he can turn to flogging to get his point across. I am not friends with my roo. He has a job to do - protecting and providing for the hens. He is not for loving on. Just MHO.

Caponizing is difficult and expensive. Takes experience. Better not to end up with roos at all if you can't have them.

Oh he isn't going to be around long! He is a meaty! I was just wondering! It just seemed way too early for this type of behavior. My JG roo's are friendly but not very touchy feely. They dont mind being picked up or carried around but you can tell they would be happier left alone. LOL I try to make sure and pick them all up and carry them around a lil bit. Just to let them know I am in control! I will not put up with any animal that will not mind! They all get 1 chance. I will allow 1 mistake. Any more than that and they are invited to dinner or out to sleep under the pasture!

Thanks and God Bless!

Good post but I did know of the "kissing" at the old BYC post. I knew the hens store the sperms but had no idea where EXACTLY the sperms will be on lockdown until the hen needs the egg fertilized.

Like people, do hens have medical reasons for rejecting sperms if you tried to have her AI?????
