Heinz makes an unpasterized you can get at grocery store and also there is Braggs, you just want to make sure it has the mother in it. How is she doing and did you bring home the duck?

Sorry-- I just saw this post! Thanks so much! Well she is doing better! I have resumed feeding her the lettuce inside her water bowl-- and she is eating it again! Phew!
It IS a lot colder now these last couple of days and it has been in the mid 30's at night and early am. I may be nuts but I wonder if it is hard on her? She spends more time with her head resting on her back sleeping when she is out in her little outdoor pen.....Someone brought over a BIG home made doghouse which I have put in her pen for her to go in if it rains....she has not used it yet though. At least she will be out of the rain. I would like to know your thoughts on this even though I guess it's kinda nutty!
Anyway, will try some ACV today in her lettuce water.....

Hi Kalsti, if my geese are anything to go by, she´ll enjoy the rain. It is nice, though, for them to have a place to hide away. Mine use it more for the shade it offers. It´s raining right now, and they´re all out in it.
You could always put some hay or grass in the doghouse to encourage her to investigate, or something else she likes. Glad she´s eating some lettuce now. I can´t remember...are you giving her grit or sand to help digestion? The cold shouldn´t be too bad a thing for her, geese are from cold climes. Hope the ACV perks her up a bit, too.....

Thanks livininbrazil! Yes, she is doing better! I will keep trying to get her interested in going in the doghouse~ I put her food bowl in there and that I will push back a little each day to encourage her to go in.....I do give her grit each day in her dry food (just the crushed oyster shell stuff.) Here is a pic I took for her Halloween and Holiday Card~ it is from Friends of Mingus Park (she is a rescue and we started this org. in response to the wildlife being abused there.) Anyway, hope you like it! (Nothing cuter to me than pics of geese looking directly into the camera....)

"Eat turkey!" so funny. I tried to load a photo of one of my geese looking at the camera, but the internet is too slow, so I´ll try another time. Tell us more about the rescue that you do at Mingus Park.

Oh it was so amazing because we who walk at the park daily were seeing kids (with parents and grandparents at their sides) kicking the wildlife, throwing sticks and rocks at them, driving bikes into them, etc. One creep actually was seen picking up a beautiful Embden and swinging him around his head several times ---much to the horror of those who saw this! Joey The Goose was observed to be abused by kids and teens and she couldn't get away (she was falling on her right leg)-- so she sat for hours by the lake and let everyone come up to pet her. She was very trusting. Well one day I had enough when a wild dog off leash chased after her and I had to get in between them, as she did not move. Made me sick. So I arranged for a local Vet to have their staff come and pick her up to do a free exam. They came in force (three of them, who I call "Geesebusters" as they were so cute!). They got Joey and we took her to the Vet. She was found to have a gash 5" long and 1.5 " wide on her CHEST, in addition to having osteomyelitis of the right leg.
So the Vet put her on antibiotics and I ended up taking her to my house and keeping her for rehab, thinking I would bring her back. But, now that she is healed I can't bring her back to the park. She would literally be a "sitting duck!"
So, she is my beautiful pet! All healed, she now has a little pond that we made for her and a little shed to protect her at night. During the day she has this big dog house that a kid made- to give her a place out of the rain, which is starting now. Here are some pics~
Anyway, it has been a pure pleasure getting to know her and having the opportunity to rehab her. (Never took care of any wildfowl before-- just dogs and cats). I've learned so much but still have so much more to learn!
We are now a group of volunteers called Friends of Mingus Park-- which uses teachable moments with people at the park if we see them abusing the birds or feeding them white moldy bread or junk food. We also have a petition that went to the City Park Commission and also the city council-- with 75 signatures. We proposed birdfood dispensers that would bring $$ into the park, a mesh grill to go over the drainage grill each year to prevent ducklings from getting swept down into the drain, and a NO FISHING park, as the wildlife are too plentiful and the close proximity of them here makes it dangerous for them and for humans.
They are looking now into our proposal and into Vaulted Vending, which has placed these dispensers in a number of parks and in 5 states to date. They install them for free and then split the profits with the city. Really seems like a great deal. Our position is that people will feed the wildlife anyway-- so why not feed them some healthy food and make a profit at the same time?
We are also looking at bringing Joey into speak with kids about abuse and bullying- she is a symbol for this!
Here is the website if you are interested: www.friendsofminguspark.com
Also is on Facebook.
Sorry for all this rambling!
Here are the pics~ (Painting was done by a friend)

Thanks~ also for the info on your "Muscovy Macho Man!" I guess I could see how he likes it here with Joey and then re-evaluate if it doesn't work out. He really is a cutie though. Here are some pics of him but not the best shots. Hard to see but he does have the bright orange knobs on the beak just below the eyes.

Livininbrazil this is off the subject-- but I would love to just see some pics of where you live in Brazil.....I've never been there nor have I known anyone from there. If possible that would be so interesting to me! :)
