The woman smiled and took the check, while the man holding Soda walked her forward and handed the lead rope over. The alert, fit mare cautiously smelled Jude, then turned her attention to the other horses on the farm. The man turned and got in the truck, which rumbled away.

"Come!" Jude said quietly, after handing the reigns to Soda to an unknown farmhand. The famrhand then too Soda and placed her into a stall. Jude carefully walked the filly to the stables, placing her into a stall next to Prometheus's.
