Emden Goosein the winter

Hello and welcome to BYC!

I have a friend that lives in Michigan, the winters get pretty brutal in her territory. She has one goose with her flock of 12 chickens. Her coop is an updated shed. They all seem to get along and live quite happily. She beds the floor deep in the winter with both straw and grass hay. You goose is adorable!! ♥️

hello and welcome if you can create a corner of your horse barn into a secure predator proof coop for the two chickens and the goose you need at least 8 ft.² of floor space for your goose and plenty of ventilation above the birds heads that would be openings covered with hardware cloth . then add a roost in there for your chickens they should be fine. I have two geese three chickens and 18 ducks. And I have three coops so each species has their own house at night.. Some people use those igloo dog houses for their geese, but obviously chickens couldn’t go in there and roost. Geese are a Good alarm system but they are not truly guards as they won’t fight off predators, unless they are fighting for their own life or that of spouse and babies and usually they will lose their life fighting .
Therefore, they need to be secure and predator proof area at night as well

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

If you keep them all together in a very well ventilated, predator proof area with fluffy dry bedding I'm sure she'll be fine with her chicken friends.
Geese are very winter hardy. Any environment suitable for the hens will be fine for her.
