one of my hens, suddenly can't walk. She tries to , but it seems as if her legs are paralyzed. She looks alert and is eating and drinking water., but the only way she can get around is by flopping her wings. She has been like this for 2 nights. She is a Silverduckwing English Bantum Her craw seems to be empty although they have plenty of feed. Any thought as to what might be wrong with her would be appreciated. Thanks

Poor thing...

i posted yesterday for the first time and one of the other users kindly directed me to a couple of sticky threads with loads of info on illnesses., have a read through them, i seem to remember some infection that stop them from being able to walk.

Here's some questions that might help:

Thanks for your quick response. We have had a lot of rain here, so now I'm think a bacterial sort of thing. They are housed in a large outdoor pen, but the ground has been wet and damp for quite a while and the temperature for the last 3 nights has dipped down to 22 degrees . They roost in a house but it is not heated. The links you sent were very helpful.

I LOVE to see one newbie helpin another...

back on topic...

how old is the hen?

if you offer food will she eat?

can you bring her inside for rehab?

can you move her hips? is there a chance she dislocated something with a fall? is there any outward signs of injury (swelling broken skin)
