I th it is mareks is there any way ro help him or treat it o.r is ir to lare I will have to seperate or kill if to late or to contagius for my other birds

Hi Chad, Sorry to get back so late. If it is Marek's, there isn't anything that you can do but make sure that he doesn't suffer. If he seems fine now, I'd keep him separated until you are sure. If he starts showing more signs of the disease, I would put him out of his misery. It can be a painful thing for him to endure. Sometimes the bird can seem to get better and almost recover but usually, its the bird adjusting to the paralysis and they will again show signs of the disease. The other chickens are in danger of contracting the disease, so you have to be very careful. Chances are, if he was with them when he started showing signs, then the others have also been exposed to the virus. They may survive and be fine their whole lives if they build immunity to it but, the virus can also lay latent which means that it hides in the cells and can come out to cause infection at a later date. If the birds become immunosuppresed (including being stressed) for any reason it may give the virus an opportunity to cause infection. Any new chickens that you get will HAVE to be vaccinated. The virus is highly contagious and its said that once you have Marek's on your property, you will always have it. It is transmitted by all bodily fluids and also by feather dander. The dander can be carried on the wind and transmitted by wild birds who visit the yard. My flock are carriers....and they are fine. It is not transmitted through the eggs so if you hatch chicks, they will still need to be vaccinated as day olds. I do it myself. The eggs are fine and delicious. ) It is not transmittable to humans or other forms of poultry. If you still think that it is Marek's, and you lose any birds, make sure to send them to the state vet. I'm in N CA and they will do a necropsy for free. All you have to do is pay for shipping to UC Davis. Look around online and see what you options are just in case. I have separated him from the rest he is away a few feet from the others I hope it's not mateos but he has most symptoms. I will check in the morning on how he's doing if nothing changes I'll have to take him out of his misery. It's sad but that's apart of farming. I hope it dosnt spread I'll keep a close watch. Thanks for all the info.
