EMERGENCY: 5 month old hen is lethargic, warm, calm! PLEASE HELP!

Can you get a decent antibiotic down at the feedstore?

not sure where you are located... but if it is crazy hot you may put her somewhere cool and make sure she has water / eggs / yogurt......

Feed store closes on Saturday at 1 and is closed on Sunday. She's in my laundry room. She'll drink a little honey water, but that's only because i put it under her before her head droops down. I'll let her take a couple of sips and then remove it. She will not eat.


How is the chicken the girl who posted before me has.

She died. I even called the vet for an emergency and by the time she called back, i heard a bunch of noise and walked in and she had died. i'm heart broken.

My girl is still the same. Before we left this morning: I gave her several syringes of honey water and half a turkey baster full of yogurt/honey/feed (dissolved in hot water). I put her in a big dog crate in the kitchen with a bowl of honey water and one of the yogurt mixture.

When we got home, she had pooped 3 times, all were green and white (we fed them veggies yesterday plus grass). She was still lethargic though. I took her out and held her in my lap. I am pretty sure she hadn't eaten or drank on her own today. I gave her several more syringes of honey water and another half baster of yogurt mix.

She is currently still in the crate and I will give her more water and food in a bit. We are just keeping her comfortable, secured, and in the dark.

Do feed stores usually carry chicken antibiotics? I would love to get some as there are a few stores around here that are open on Sunday.

Green feces indicates starvation and/or heat stroke. Basically what you are seeing is bile. Yes, feed stores carry a variety of antibiotics. Pet stores do as well, although in smaller quantity and variety. With pet stores (larger ones are usually open all Saturday & Sunday) you will find amoxicillin and erythromycin in the bird and fish sections. Either can be effective, depending on the particular concern. Feed stores usually carry many meds, some for mixing into drinking water and others for injection.
