We found one of our chickens just lying there, not getting up. We picked it up, and its leg is hanging limp, apparently from just above the hock joint (is that what you call it in chickens?) down. We gave it its own cage with food and water, but do I need to splint it?

Ouch sorry to hear that, I hate hearing a bird in pain :(. Have you called a vet and talked to them? That's what I do when I have some problem or another.

Thanks for the replies! I just separated her for a while and let her chill. She is now back with the other chickens. She is limping but steadily getting better. Her leg seems to be healing very slightly crooked, but I think she'll be just fine.

That's great!

Oh no! Are you sure it's a mechanical injury? Some chicken diseases can cause a limp. I'm no chicken expert so I can't help much.
