EMERGENCY - Chicks eating bedding!

sadly, the container is plastic, so I worry that they will just slip everywhere.

Mine eat shavings too, so I use towels.

You can use washable shelf liner if you want to give them some better (non eatable) footing.

I agree, I use shelf liner and just wash it daily and run it through the machine once a week for a deep clean. cheaper then shavings thats for sure

Oh, the chicken "having seizures" in the dustbath, haha, yeah, that's a good one! That one nearly gave me a heart seizure! Nearly as good is the "invisible chicken" prank in the dustbath when there is nothing there and then they pop their head out like the Night of the Living Dead!

I remember that so well from the first flock I had.....

Naughty-Naughty got her name when she was a few weeks old. DH was in the bathroom and I was checking on the chicks. Naughty-Naughty was kinda laying on her side with one wing out and flopping like she was having convulsions. I FREAKED OUT!!!

I screamed for DH who came running, I was crying telling him she was dying. He picked her up and I was yelling at him to be careful she was hurt. He set her back down, looked at me and says, calm down she was just dust bathing. LOL

I looked at her with tears still running out my eyes and said you are a naughty-naughty chicky, scaring mommy like that. and so she was named.

i have had Chicks eat bedding before, I didn't notice a problem from that. Eventually they got sick of eating carbon based materials and went back to eating feed.

And the neon green poops from eating red cabbage.
Not sure the chemistry behind that magic.
