Just now i had 5 hens and 2 roosters die, it was like it was spreading 1 by 1. IT ALL happened at the same time interval like all of a sudden the first hen was acting weird then the next...

The hen or rooster falls on its knees, its acting very wierd and cant walk properly... after death comb turned blue... some had white puss come out of mouth... chicken keeps shaking....

what is this? a disease or poison?

sounds like poison...
any access to lawn/garden chemicals?
motor oils, etc..
stagnant water
anything dead or rotten?..anything with maggots..
compost pile?
rodent poison? dead rodent?

whatever it is..it's toxic and fast acting..
are they cooped/penned or free range?
where were they before they got sick?
check area..

OR...
where are you? what are the temps?
do they have shade and shelter?
did they have access to clean water?
are the combs hot or cold?
spiders?

describe droppings..color and consistency.

i think it might have been poison because 2 nights ago i put poison in some eggs for a predator, but everything was safe and clean after i let them free range again... they free range from sun rise to sun down. maybe the animal that died... they had found and pecked at? i left not one spot of poison outside.

after an animal has been poisoned how long does it take for the poison to disappear? like if i bury the hen and something finds it and digs it out and eats some of it... does it get poisoned too?

So sorry this happened to you. This is why I never put out baits, the stuff keeps on killing. Your poor hens probably got into something that had the poison in it. Perhaps whatever ate it first the birds ate its carcass.

It depends what the poison was that you used. Some will last some will not. It should say on the poison container. Or if not, do a search on it to see what the residual is.

here is MIss Glenda's suggestions on how to flush..

look up recipe for appropriate flush mix in link..

then:

put the chicken on the table in front of you
if there is some one to hold the chicken it is easier to do

now take the filled syringe and put it in the back of the throat of the chicken
ex[ell all the water
now lay the syringe down
take your hand and bring it up tightly against the crop of the chicken
all he while pushing on the hand to breing up the spoiled feed etc out of the crop
the chicken will not hold it back but as chickens do not vomit you are the one bringing the spoiled feed out the beak

do not turn the chicken upside down

do the flushing at least three times and let the bird rest
DO NOT FEED IT FOR 24 HRS
let it rest and then only feed it
one sliced of bread soaked in milk
into the milk cut a 1000 mg capsule of Vitamin E and crush 1 tablet of selinium and mix with the soaked bread
feed this twice a day for a week

also have 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar in qt of water

by now she is getting better

then you can see if she does alright on the crumble chicken feed

DO NOT FEED HER ANY WHOLE OR CRACKED GRAINS ALL THIS TIME

What poison did you use? Rat bait? Snail bait? Old time predator poison like strychnine? They have different treatments depending on what you used. I think the chickens found some of a partially eaten poison egg that your pest left behind. Chickens love to eat eggs. Chickens do not usually rip open and eat dead animals larger than a mouse. Leaving out poison eggs is a indiscriminate way to try to kill a predator- you are as likely to get a skunk, raccoon or possum during the night- or some other random egg eating animal or scavenger during the day coming across the remainders.

Please post what the poison is you used (and the active ingredients) ...
Chickens eat insects and insects feed on dead (poisoned) animals... the insect is probably the carrier of the poison. OR (if a rat poison) the poison could also have been in the droppings and the birds ate that

Does a poisoned chicken lay eggs? and if it does would the egg be poisoned? And can poison be easily transferred from the body to insects and so on..?
