Emergency! DIEING HEN

Help! I posted about this before could it be sour crop. I lifted her up to feel her keel bone. Then liquids came out of her mouth while I was holding her up. Could this be worms? If so send me the medicine plz ill pay u back for postal and the medicine bcuz i dont have any good medicine local. I've noticed she has bin more pale. I lifted her up massaged the crop and drained some of the liquid but i feel like im just emptying her stomach or water she drank! Please help! What is wrong with her? And is she dieing! Could she be in shock? I recently lost a hen to a predator

I don't think she is dying, however, this is serious. A crop impaction or sour crop could both be reasons behind this. The shock of the predator could have caused these problems.

I'll do my best. I've never treated for either, but here goes:

EMpty out the crop by holding them so their head is point down and massaging the crop. Liquid should come out. If it smells bad it is probably sour crop. Make sure the hen has a chance to breath while empty her out. Keep her inside and cease feeding for 24 hours (according to some at least) and provide clean water. Others suggest putting some baking soda into the water.
Offer soft food after 12-24 hours, not hard food. Confine the bird in a crate or in a coop. Good soft foods include scrambled eggs, plain yogurt, and softened bread.
Repeat the emptying on the crop every day until it is better. If it persists for a week, they may need antifungal medication.


Impacted crops can be treated by flushing the crop with water or a bit of oil to help break up and get rid of the ball of stuff. If oil, water and massaging does not it better, then a vet will have to do surgery.

Here is a quote from someone on BYC "just treated my hen a week ago for sour crop. I held her under 1 arm like a football and tipped her over while massaging her crop upwards, she was sick this way and emptying the stuff out of her crop (it stunk). I did this morning and early evening every day till she was better, it took 3 days to clear her crop. I kept her in a cage so she could rest and not access any other food, i put acv in her water and fed her yogurt sprinkled with chick feed.
I was scared to make her vomit as i knew it was dangerous if she aspirated it into her lungs, after she did vomited i would lift her up for a few seconds to let her take a breather then i would tip her again and repeat the massaging.
It's surprising how much the bring up."

I think during the first 15 hours some suggest withholding water and just emptying the crop all the way.
