She laid a normal egg this morning with no trouble.

She’s been laying just fine, and the heat hasn’t been so bad. She’s a little off, but that’s to be expected after a painful, draining egg-binding AND a with how bad temps are.

I’m in Portland. It got up to 117 where there were no trees. Nothing could live in those temps, so my girls came inside.
I saw way, way too many heartbreaking posts on social media from people who had lost pets in the heat.

Vanilla and the rest of the girls have been fine ever since this! There was one really weird experience about a week ago that involved me pulling a never-ending rubber band out of a hen’s vent, but we’ve had no major issues since the stuck egg this thread starred.
Once again, thanks to this wonderful community for coming through with such helpful and quick advice that quite possibly saved my hen’s life.

I’ll go: first white, female; second white, female; third white, male; brown chick: more information needed.

You were spot on!!! Out of 6 chicks (the rose comb chick sadly died due to a predator), we have one male so far, the third photo. Good job!!

The rest in the guessing game are females, including the second batch I hatched. I am just looking out for slower developing males in the second batch now. Great guessing!

Oh wow! I’ve actually acccurately guessed chick gender before. Just ask @MGG. Of course, it’s all a guess. But there seems to be a pattern, lol.

Yes!!! She guesses my day olds and has been totally accurate on a number of chicks!
