EMERGENCY!! Gosling FULL OF WATER!?!

Quote:
The Texas heat is oppressive to everything this year. I lost some goslings to it this year myself. Geese will sit around the waterers. If yours are tall enough, give them a buckets of water, too. I add vitamins & electrolytes and Bounce Back (another electrolyte powder without vitamins) to all their water sources, including pools. I don't care what the temperature was at the airport, but Friday both my thermometers (in the shade) read 117, and it was humid (but you know about that)!

I can understand your frustration. My entire day is spent keeping ten 5 gal buckets, 6 large pools, 8 small pools and numerous feed pans (wading pools for the little tykes) fresh, cool, and clean, checking on every single one of them, and sometimes bringing one inside until it is better. I can only drain and refill the 750 gal tank every other day. They have shade all day, too. I also put in a misting system for them, which comes on 10 minutes every half hour. I started that project last year and it's almost finished. They have access to it at all times during the day. I'm just expanding it and fine-tuning now. It's running almost 24 hrs a day right now and they don't stray far from it. That has really helped. You might be able to get an inexpensive mister. The heat is really hard on them. They won't eat more than they need. In this weather, mine are not eating nearly what they normally would. They just don't hve much appetite during the day. They spend as musc time in water as they can, and when they get kicked out because their turn is up, they pant ("Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot") and drool profusely. Everything has to get bleached every day or it smells like the bottom of a sauerkraut barrel. And it's not even August! Wetting down their yard at night before I bring them in helps them cool down and recharge overnight, too. They have been doing most of their eating in the morning when they are most comfortable but they have feed and hay available all day. God knows the grass is fried!Good luck!

Mother was afraid I'd come to no good end. Here I am, a slave to geese! "Housekeeping!?"

. I moved to SC from Scotland 8 years ago and find the heat VERY oppressive. It kills me to walk out there to do my own birds water bucksts and pools but its something that has to be done. I swear I sweat enough water to fill all those buckets. The only places on me that are tanned are my arms and ankles and feet, the rest of me is white white white, I dont know how people can sunbath out in this or even go the beach in this weather. Its a killer

The heat in Ohio has been hot hot hot. My pen is without shade so I went to Walmart and bought a tarp and wired it onto the top of the cage for shade.
I plan to plant a fast growing tree this summer out near the coop but the tarps work for now.
My goseling does the same thing too.
