Emergency help fast!

It is just like we are, if we inhale A LOT of smoke we cough.since they won’t drink I would get a tiny Syringe and slowly squirt cold water in its mouth. If it doesn’t swallow it , it could be in serious pain and need emergency vet assistance.

If you are trying to get them to lay eggs, then a little supplemental heat will help.

It's the amount of light, not the temperatures, that causes a layer to lay more or less eggs. When the hours of light go down in the fall and winter, they slow down or even stop laying, then when the amount of daylight hours starts going up again, they will pick up laying more, and often start going broody. People who want more eggs during the winter should add light, not heat, to the coop. That stops their natural slowdown in egg production.

One note on that, however - a layer can only lay a specific number of eggs in her lifetime. By causing her to lay more in the winter, she will reach the point where she cannot lay any more eggs earlier in her lifetime. If you are the type that can harvest them and introduce them to a pot of noodles after 3 or 4 years, that may not matter to you. If you would rather have them around longer, it certainly might.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to make them stop coughing. that is how they will clear their lungs.
running to a vet usually is futile. many of them do not know much about chickens.

I wish ur girls all the best.. have u tried a little plain yoghurt thinned down with water? It can be soothing as well as nutritional. The bacteria in the yoghurt can only be helpful to ailing hens.

So all of my chickens are healthy but one, it took them about 3 days to fully recover. That also happened to be when it began to warm up it got to the fifties for a few days then another harsh cold front came in bringing bad the highs to be in the low 20s and lows in the single digits but for some reason that triggered the respiratory problems to one of my chickens she is back to stretching her neck out to breath and sound like she’s constantly snoring. I think the cold is one of the reasons she is having a hard time breathing and maybe some permanent lung damage.
