Emergency!! Help my chick that's trying to hatch, please!!

I've had them pip in that area of the side many times and hatch just fine. I don't recall if this is your first hatch or not, but they usually start on the "side" like that or a little higher. The first time I ever hatched I was surprised how far on the side they started.....and not on the top like I had thought.

Whew! Thanks

I have incubated eggs, but none of the eggs ever even made it this far. I have hatch 100 or more chicks with broody hens, but that is kinda' different than this. So, I guess, you could say this really is my first time hatching.

How did it go?? Did the peep hatch? I have helped many peeps get out of the eggs, even some button quail. I have also witnessed ALL of my birds hatch. Even in the wildest of thunder storms sitting out at the coop in the middle of the night! HA!
Most do well on thier own, but I have gone in and helped with the membrane if in the incubator. Most do ok under a hen because the humidity is perfect under there.
Hope all went well..hathing is so stressful to me, but I really do enjoy it.
Good Luck!

I recommend whistling to the little chick to encourage it to hatch. I do it all the time with mine. I sit in front of the incubator looking in and whistle in an attempt to imitate the incessant chirping that baby chicks make when they've just hatched. Maybe it's my imagination, but I think it spurs them on sometimes to want to hurry up and be out with those other chicks that it thinks are already out and having a party.

I swear I've watched as they get more and more excited and push and peck harder when they hear the whistling. I've had chicks pip more on the side like that and hatched just fine. Good Luck to you and your little chick!

maybe I am crazy but that seems to be where mine always pip from if I am looking at the picture right. I wouldn't worry to much. Mine hatched out fine this last time.

ACK!! ha ha. Sorry, I thought you posted the egg dilemma earlier in the day. HA!
Hope everything went well.
I was talking with a friend of mine who sells over 30 breeds of peeps and he says that he has a better hatch rate when he hand turns the eggs, if in an incubator, otherwise, he lets his hens handle it! Also talking to them helps. I have my bator right next to the radio in my kitchen, so they rock out 24 hours a day. I suppose they may want to start a band when they hatch! HA! Watch out American Idol!

It seems we are having the same issues. I have 5 pips and they are taking a long time. makes you worry alot. Mine has been pipping for more than 15 hours and of 5 one has a hole less than a dime that you can see in. Cant see anything in the others yet.

good luck with your hatch
