EMERGENCY!!! My bantam roo is bloodying himself. Update, its not good!

I wouldn't use electrical tape - he would probably pick at it and cause more damage to himself. Blu-knot can be found at any farm supply store. I would ask your landlady, blu-knot is a pretty basic necessity when you've got livestock.

It's clotted now, I may get some clotting powder just to have it. Thank you to everyone who replied, my boyfriend and I are going out tomorrow anyway. I would go get the blu-klot today but we have a super limited income and simply cant aford the gas, but I will get some when we go out tomorrow... for today all I can do is make him a little muzzle and hope I never have to use it. My land lady gets her feed from Hilo which is a 40 minuet drive, the nearest feed store is at least that in any direction... I'll just do what I can to make it through today. thank you to everyone.

This morning, after sleeping with the muzzle on we washed Chicken-Butts wound and wrapped it in electrical tape (its all we had!) so that he could eat and drink freely, that stopped him dead in his tracks and he didn't mess with his wattles at all. I took him outside and he did just fine, talked to my landlady I was right she didn't have Blu-kote... and the antibacterials she did have she couldn't find @_@ So we went to the feed store she recommended and got wound-kote, blue lotion spray on because it was the only one they had. I almost got PineTar too becasue I read in another forum that it may work also but it was more expensive >_> So the wound-kote said fast drying. It LIES. Anyway sprayed the chicken and the first thing he did was flip his wattle into his face and make his face blue!

You can see the diffrence!

Sadly he still wouldn't stop chewing, I left him alone for a couple minutes and he persisted in chewing. So i put the muzzle back on becasue I know the wound needs to air in order not to become infected. I'm going to try just the spray again in the morning after cleaning the wound. If he still chews I'll just have to cover it with something, something that breaths not electrical tape!!

I've been absent for sometime.... Sorry bout that.

In case anyone was wondering, Chicken but is no longer a zombie chicken. The answer was to just let him chew until he leanrned that it wasn't worth it, we kept the wounds clean and applyed new blu-kote twice a day. We covered the wounds with breathing medical tape when it was dinner time, to keep food particals out. Then one day he just stopped, nothing had changed he simply stopped. We still don't know why he was chewing his wattles, he hasn't done so in over a year. Other wise he's doing good. Thanks for all the help.

Well, that's the weirdest thing I've heard. If it ever crops up again, I'd put some pic-no-more (by Rooster Booster) on it. It tastes awful. It's goopy and tarry and he'll find out he's not so delicious after all!

Wow, thank you I'll keep that in mind. Hopefuly he never has that problem again... it was heartbreaking and terrifying!!
