The mourning doves where I live nest in trees. However, their young often fledge before they have develop their wings and tail feathers fully. Once, at the lake, I thought I saw a baby duck all by itself and in trouble. But, when I looked more closely, I saw it was a newly fledged mourning dove and he was doing just fine. His mom and dad were nearby. He grew up very nicely.
