Hi everyone. I have a true emergency in my flock and not sure what to do. I have a 3 1/2 YO Lavender Orpington hen. She has been fine up until 2 days ago. I noticed she was a little "offish", just not acting herself. Then yesterday, it turned to being lethargic and not really eating or drinking too much. She does get up and walk around, but not very often. When she does, she stays low to the ground and her tail is tucked under. Today, she is more lying around and with her eyes closed 80% of the time. She has very watery diarrhea, but it is of normal color. No blood or worms or anything to show of but the water itself. I have checked her vent for parasites, and she is clear of everything. Vent is pink and normal and no crusted poop or anything. She is clear of mites as well. Her cop is normal as well, not impacted or of any concern. I do have a mild case of bumblefoot going through my flock. All my hens have it and I have been treating them accordingly for this for the past few weeks. But they have been fine with this regular treatment of the soaks, Prid salve, wrapping of the feet, etc. This hen in particular has the mildest of cases with her feet.
I thought this may be coccidiosis and started her yesterday on Amprolin in hopes of helping her, but today she seems worse than yesterday, so I am not sure if this is the best approach for her. I do not know if I should deworm her, even though I saw no signs of worms in her diarrhea, but as a precaution. I have checked her to be sure she was not egg bound, as she has not laid an egg in 5 days. But I do not feel any abnormalities in her abdomen or anything. Her comb and waddle are both very healthy, red color and not sickly looking at all. I am unable to take her to a vet for 2 reasons: 1, there are no avian vets near me and 2, if there were, I would be unable to afford them anyway. I am praying there is something I can do for her quick before it is too late. She is my favorite hen, and I really hate to lose her.
I have a total of just 6 hens. One other, a black Australorp, she is the same age as the one that is sick. She is starting to act a bit offish now as well, and I am afraid something may be contagious within my flock. But then, she is the best buddy of this one and I am not sure if she is offish because she senses her best friend is sick. I am just at a loss and would appreciate so much any help you all can give me. Thank You.
