Ok clean him up take a cotton ball if you have one or a soft Kleenex, wet it with the warm water,clean his nostrils beak, neck all down his back. The back is important because this swill stimulate him, clean any part that you can see do not go into that she'll, leave that alone only the parts that are exposed. Once HES all cleaned up place him in the BATOR with his feet to the bottom of the bator. He'll use those legs and push himself out. If you can take a quick look inside the shell let me know if you see any yolk sack, don't mistaken it for his belly button..

Should I put him back in the incubator now? If so, can he sit directly on the metal grate?

Once HES cleaned up yes, he CSN go back but remember place him with his feet to the bottom, yes you want his feet to be able to grip that bottom grate,
