Emergency!! Positioned wrong/Assisted hatching! Please help!

Sharing one's knowledge and teaching them to fly on their own is a great gift and wonderful legacy. perhaps their could be a new section in the forums for those who successfully trained under Dr Lacrystol to share their hatches!
I agree! I am a veterinary technician but I have no training with chickens, ducks or any bird for that matter. In fact I've mostly done large animal (horses) lol but I love my chickens! I love learning new things like this.

Ayyy, welcome to the club! :p I was lucky enough to intern at an exotic bird clinic where I learned lotsa stuff about chickens, ducks turkeys, geese and even an emu. But even as a pet duck owner it's a pretty steep learning curve, I've found. Oi.

Well I grew up on a Quarter Horse breeding and training farm and my mom was a tech. Naturally I took to it like a "duck to water" lol I have had experience with lots of animals, just birds being the least :-/ I love learning all this new stuff!

Hey friends! Quick question for anyone who knows:
Lucy is peeping constantly and I mean constantly! She's now about 26 hours without the bottom half of the egg, about 40 hours outside of the shell. We are having a little trouble getting her to try to eat, and her legs and neck are still quite weak. We have water that has Niacin and sugar mixed in available to her and the boys. She may have had some level of septic shock, due to the crud in her egg, and we are a little worried that this is still a problem. We just tried mixing the food and water together (so that it looked more like a broth than a soup on the surface), she drank a little of that. I figure that will give her some of the nutrients in the food without the problem of lack of grit in her crop. Solutions? Ideas? We just want to make sure she gets the vitamins she needs to get those muscles going.
(We are only concerned because she is the slowest in development, and also the most problematic birth we had)
Thanks!

Okay! So.. what we are coming to realize is that she has probably imprinted on Ryan. Which explains why she wouldnt shut up when I was holding her. She's calm now, and sleeping in Ryans hands. Whew! I was worried there for a minute.
He says he not happy about being a mom, but I think he is.

Oh my goodness, How utterly sweet is that??? Don't forget to get him a Mother's Day card and sign it with Lucy's foot ;) (I'd use beet juice...

Just a "funny" for you... we went to our local "farm store" (think Home Depot for farm/hay/chick stuff) We almost, seriously, ALMOST bought 2 or 3 ducks!! It was was a close call.... I'm used to chickens (Uhm, I'm addicted... up to 15 now!) But now I need to read up on ducks! I'm seriously wanting the Pekin Ducks after reading what they are like! I'll update if the new babies come to stay
