Emergency-scalped male??

Hey all, I came back from a 4-day trip where I left my flock (4 female 1 male) and when I came back my MALE, blondie, has been totally scalped! Featherless on the neck, his top of his little head is basically a MASSIVE scab. He looks like he got the shite beat out of him! They had good food and water the whole time, and he dustbathed today when I cleaned the hutch and seems to be a little on edge but none of the girls have seemed to hurt him further. I’m so terrified on why this happened?? The scab was black and solid and old so it happened at least a day or so ago and doesn’t look to have been disturbed since, and I’ve been checking the hutch and no other girls have had a row with him. I’m going to the Fleet to get Blu-Kote tomorrow, will he be okay until then?? I didn’t separate anyone because I have no idea who did it and they all seem to be leaving him alone. Poor kid looks ragged, my hearts all broken for him!

I’ve also never had any fights with the girls besides when I first introduced Boomer and Ophelia. This is honestly the first fight I’ve ever seen, or injury this bad.

I am not an expert on quail but I am not a fan of BluKote because it dyes everything purple and you aren’t able to see the injury or if it is healing.

Does he seem stressed? Is there anything that he could’ve got caught on? He should be fine with food, water and if he’s not stressed about anything.

He seems a little out of it (kind of just pecking around and shirking a bit more from me than usual) but he pecked at food and rolled in some dirt. Thank you!

I had a quail startle once and pop up so fast and hard that she scalped herself on the roof of their hutch. It's very possible that no one injured him. I rinsed it well, pushed the skin back to cover it as much as possible, and slathered her in neosporin. She healed up perfectly fine within about 2 weeks.

My go to is vetericyn, Fleet has it but I don’t know if it should be applied to a sculp.

I had a quail startle once and pop up so fast and hard that she scalped herself on the roof of their hutch. It's very possible that no one injured him. I rinsed it well, pushed the skin back to cover it as much as possible, and slathered her in neosporin. She healed up perfectly fine within about 2 weeks.

I’m going to check around the hutch roof tomorrow and see if I can find out if this was the case. Thank you!
