I always keep my coop super clean and I added a hut for my silkie over winter and last week there was an ammonia smell that wouldn't go away so I pulled all the hut out and there was a bunch of poop that stacked up behind there that I didn't know about and was moldy. I cleaned it all out but I'm pretty sure I disturbed a whole bunch of spores because the two chickens that are right by that area started to struggle to breathe. I have high and low ventilation in the coop and misted it all with 2 1/2 tsp oxine per cup it cool air humidifier.

One went into complete respiratory distress (my favorite chicken😭) on Saturday morning and I brought her in and she ended up passing away in my arms that afternoon. She had dyspnea with the tail bobbing and outstretched neck. Sneezing fits that shot her back to the back of the cage. Wheezing and high pitched breathing. Wouldn't eat or drink.
Poops were normal.
My little silkie, Cornflake who just turned 1 last week, now has the same symptoms and we went to the vet yesterday and he gave her a dose of baytril and lasix. He did an x-ray and there's fluid in her lungs.

Now it's morning and she's getting worse. She's in my bathroom right now and I have a Dyson hot cold purifier that's running to keep the temperature at 80° and a humidifier with oxine to keep the relative humidity at 70% according to an article I read.
I feel like oxine has not been working for me as it has others.

I feel so absolutely awful... I've never lost a chicken in my time of owning and I'm probably going to lose two in the span of a couple days.
Is there anything else at all that I could do to help? She won't eat or drink anything in this past weekend I tube toast and chanted up passing away anyways so I don't want to risk that this time.

:hugs I'm sorry to hear all this.
How is she doing?

I've never used Oxine, but it seems to be what most use.
It wasn't working, so we went to the vet and she was in an oxygen chamber and still passed away. I was using a warm air humidifier and so maybe that was the problem. I got a nebulizer for it in case I need to miss the other chickens... I sent her in for necropsy

I'm sorry to hear she didn't make it:(

It's good that you are getting further testing to find out more. If you don't mind, share the results when you get them?

Well, they just called and said there was inflammation in the trachea consistent with suffocation but there was nothing else obvious. There could have been fungal issues but nothing that was intense enough for an immediate cause of death.
Basically a dead end 😭

I'm sorry to heart that the tests were inconclusive. Hopefully you won't have any more problems with the rest.
