Tried to trim scissor beak, cut bottom too far. Bottom beak is bleeding. I’ve attemyed to stop it with corn start here but when I let her go she rubs it off, need advise on how to proceed

Sorry to hear about your bird.

I would add a little bit of corn starch to the towel, and apply firm pressure for a minute or two until the blood clots. If the cut continues to bleed she may need to see an veterinarian. Do you have any pictures of the wound?

Used corn starch, bleeding has stopped for now. Worried that she’ll pick at it and open the wound back up

Depending on how the cut looks, I might apply a super glue wound gel over the wound to seal any blood from possibly coming out in the few days to come. Do you have any on hand?

The bleeding has stopped for now... problem is when we set her down she picks at it and it bleeds again. Guess we hold her most of the night. Sorry I posted in a bit of a panic

I know this is an old thread but hoping I might get an answer…was your chicken okay? I’m trying to comment on other similar threads that I find

I’m asking because one of my chickens has an injury that looks similar to this one. We used the tea bag method to protect the wound. This is my first time having chickens so I’m wondering what to expect over the course of healing, if it will heal at all. Thank you :)

Does your chicken have a beak injury?

If so, do you have a thread, I can't find it. If not, then please post a photo of the injury, it's very helpful to see what has happened so we can offer suggestions.

I didn’t make my own thread because the whole thing happened very fast, so we didn’t end up taking any pictures. I’ve also made a lot of threads lately so I thought I’d give it a rest.. :)

My chicken’s injury looked quite a bit like the one in this thread, but much more mild (there was exposed tissue on the tip of the beak, but not actively bleeding). The injury was due to her snagging it on something, but it looked like the same type of injury as beak trimming accidents, so I’ve been going back through these old threads about it.

We cleaned the wound and then used superglue and tea bag mesh to cover it and make it stronger. That said, it was very difficult to cover 100% of the wound (probably got 98% though) but we decided not to try in case it needed a place to drain. She didn’t appear it be in any pain at all, eating and pecking totally normally.
