EMERGENCY - Turkey Skinned? *VERY Graphic Pics*

Ive seen some pretty gnarly wounds over the last year, didn't seem to affect the birds as much as it would have for me....

Wounds like the one on the turkey's flank seem to heal best if they are untended or do not receive too much of a good thing. I have no reason to say this except for a few personal experiences with horrific wounds on my farm animals. Some of these stories had happy endings, others did not. It just seemed that the more I tried to help the worst things became.

You could try using sticky ligatures. Thin strips of plain plaster with sticky pads on the ends. Pull across the skin flap holding it in place and stick to the feathers or skin on either side. You'ld need three or four. Alternative would be taking to the vet to get it stitched up.

Op did this, unfortunately her turkey did not survive.

My turkey had something similar done to her except not as big I used a spray from Tractor Supply Company called Poultry Aid for scratches and abrasions hitch is okay for turkeys. Be careful with some meds you are planning to give her though because turkeys are sensitive to medications. This spray worked great for my hen it helped her wound heal VERY quickly. She is now all healed and very happy. I would highly suggest using it! Also I gave my turkey a supplement which was liquid that I mixed in with her water which kept her perky and boosted her immune system (also at TSC)

This is the spray I used (link below). Every morning directly on her wound. Keep it clean & keep her separate. Good luck and I hope this helps you!!!

Thank you for telling me this, and I will definitely use it on our other animals. Unfortunately as I mentioned above, our turkey died yesterday at 10:00. But thank you for your help.
