Emergency! What now?

I really don't see how they have grown that quick.

I know!! Right?! I don't get it either. And they are ALL like that so it wasn't because of low humidity during egg collection. The oldest egg before firing up the incubator was 7 days the youngest was less than 24 hours. If it were because of low humidity when stored before incubation I would think that you would see some with normal sized air sacks and some with the 18 day sized air sack.

Uhhhg. My daughter is going to be so disappointed if we don't get a hatch

Thanks again for your help. I will keep you updated.

Wow! those are big for 8 days! Here is a link for testing the hygrometer: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/101416/important-do-you-know-how-to-test-your-hygrometer
If you still see growth in the air cells after highering the humidity, higher it some more! You really don't want them to keep growing at that rate. Are those your eggs or shipped eggs and are they real porouse?

Thanks for the link! They are my own eggs. I guess they are amazingly porous? EEEEEEEKK!

I actually think silkie is right. When you candle them, candle from the top, (most rounded end down) and not from the bottom. It makes sense that what you are seeing is the bottom and not the air cells and that's what appears so large. I think you will find that they are actually smaller and you could lower your humidity.

YOU GUYS ARE RIGHT! Duh the airsack is at the top hence the reason they are stored pointy side down!

I've been sick with a terrible cold and can't think!!! I feel soooo unintelligent. Oh my goodness I cant believe myself right now

Thank you thank you thank you!! In that case...now I need to figure out a way to decrease the humidity I just raised without disturbing them again. Should I wait 6 hours to pull out some of that water or just pull it out now to get it back to 44%. God I feel stupid...

So you have them incubating pointy end down? And the humidity depends on your egg cell size, it it's normal than I'd reccomend getting that water out. The small amount of time it takes to remove the water won't hurt the eggs, however high humidity will delay egg cell growth.

Personally, I'd just go ahead and get it back down. You're not the first to make that mistake, so don't feel bad. Hope you feel better and the rest of the hatch goes better for you.

Thank you! You've been very helpful.

Okay. I will pull out the water now then. Thanks for the help!

Don't feel dumb ...it's your first time....I was mystified looking at a candled egg....takes a bunch of candling to eventually start to understand what you are looking at..... just be glad there really is nothing wrong and the air cells are probably just fine.... :)
