EMERGENCY whats wrong with my hen?

Wow. Good to learn . I have my facts mixed up. I definitely agree with vet help. Many people do want to try to get around that cost. You should be very careful with self help efforts with animals. I am cautious and try to get as much information as I can . That is what I love about backyard chickens. There is so much to learn when you give what you do know. Thanks for all the good info! I am still learning just like everyone is everyday

She hasn't really improved to be honest. She perks up now and again but that dosnt last for long. I'm starting to think she's either egg bound or has coccidiosis. I'm been bathing her for the last week 3 times a day with Epsom salts as well as calcium pills which makes me think she's not egg bound which then leads me to believe she has coccidiosis. I've not treated her for that yet as I have no medication however I'm going to order this tonight ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0029IQ1EA/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A3236T5LSKWXM1&psc=1 ) for next day delivery. Yeah she is young she's only just turnt a year old bless her

Well I think wyorp rock is on target with vet help. It really zaps them of illness lingers and can really affect that birds overall thriftiness and even can weaken the flock to have an ill and member. I would think to get professional help at this stage if you want to save her. Do you have a local poultry or farm vet available?

We've taken her to the vet and she gave her some medication that didn't work. She said there is nothing she can't do now :(

The Petlife Harkers Coxoid looks like it is Amprolium -similar to what we have her in the states (Corid), so this will be a good choice to use for treating Cocci.

She may not be egg bound, internal laying/reproductive disorder like mentioned in the previous posts are when egg yolks or egg matter has dropped into the abdomen (instead of traveling through the oviduct like it should). This can cause symptoms like you are seeing. Cocci and worms are also a possibility, so treating her for those will not hurt. Amprolium is considered a safe and mild medication and there is no egg withdrawal (no throw away period).

Keep her hydrated. I'm sorry we don't have better answers.

Okay so if I order the coxoid then. I will also bathe her with Epsom salts twice a day. What else could I do ?

Don't apologise you are really helping me!! Much more than my vet did! Let's just prey she pulls through this!

Quote: Don't totally bathe her, just give her a soaking

Offer her some poultry vitamins until your coxoid arrives and give her some extra protein like egg, tuna, mackerel, meat, etc.

Once you start the coxoid, stop the vitamins until treatment is finished, then give vitamins and probiotics/yogurt for a couple of days afterward.

Just a note to everyone. We are all here to learn, there are so many medicines, remedies, techniques and opinions that is can all be confusing and hard to process all the information. Everyday is a learning experience and we are all here to try to help each other the best we can. Vet care and advice is always best, so when in doubt of anything you read, ask a vet or do some deep research.

I do wish we had better answers. Sometimes supportive care and TLC will help them pull through.

Please keep us posted.

I've never heard of Chickens eating those things haha! However I'm willing to give it a go and have tune in the cupboard so going to give her some now.

I totally agree I always take them to the vet before I try anything however this time me vet doesn't seem interested at all which really annoys me!!

I will spoil her and treat her the best I can. Thanks for all the help, I will keep you updated.
:)
