Emergency!!

Add Apple Cider to its water. This is good to do all the time, but will especially help now to give your rooster a boost. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...bCbbwyQ_fS9Ai1OIfj64_R16XaE8OlqIaAqSDEALw_wcB

This link is great for keeping mites and parasites out of the coop and off of the chickens. YOu can either dust the chickens' feathers and skin with this or sprinkle lots in the run and coop for when they take dust baths. This is very important and is maybe what your rooster has. If parasites are not treated quickly it may lead to anemia.

It may be spring and your chicken is getting lots of pollen in its respiratory system. This may lead to respiratory issues and can sometimes cause a purple comb. I recommend cleaning out your coop. Though there is really nothing you can do with the pollen, airing out the dust from their coop is very helpful. Make sure to keep a clean coop.

Just for extra health, I recommend adding garlic and turmeric to their feed for a little while. This will help with anti-inflammatory, immune health, and antibacterial.

Natural supplements isn't going to help.

What happened to tagging me to help others?

I wouldn't jump to Antibiotics yet, until we figure out for sure what's going on.

Purple skin can point to a heart issue, or poor oxygen circulation, due to respiratory illness.

Is he showing any other symptoms besides the purpling of the face, & lethargy?

I wanna rule out bird flu.

Does he have red/purplish splotches on his legs? Any raspy breathing? Is he off balance/wobbly? Puffed up?
I agree. A lethargic chicken with purplish comb doesn't scream the presence of a bacteria that can be cured with antibiotics.
And what is it about antibiotics that are natural treatments?

Thanks.

I don't know.

I have a year old rooster that was found this morning very lethargic with a purple comb
In my opinion, this does indicate either cardiac or respiratory issue, not an infection (which is what antibiotics would be used for). If you can afford it, and you can find one in your area that treats chickens, you could have a vet look him over and hopefully get some answers.

Yes, a vet is very helpful in this case.

ACV is not good to do all the time. It's hogwash just like DE.

I suggest you do more research before giving a ton of random advice on emergency threads. Do not suggest antibiotics if you don't know what's going on. Why did you suggest molasses?

I don't really have the time to catch up right now (on my way to work) but it looks like I need to. @Wyorp Rock @casportpony forgive me if you two ladies have already been tagged.

FWIW - I got this from the U of MN website, giving signs and symptoms of HPAI:

I did lots of research!! And my chickens have had discoloration on their combs. I treated it with molasses and it worked great! If flushes out toxins replace lost vitamins and minerals and is good for overall health. This will just give the rooster a boost.
