I have an almost twenty four hour old chick. I treated it last night for spraddle leg. But I think something more could be wrong. I keep finding it flat on its stomach with its feet straight out behind it. It can balance sitting back on its haunches but can only stand al the way up for a second. It also won't walk forward only backward, then it falls over backward and rolls on its stomach. It's feet are not twisted or curled. They just seem weak. Does anyone have any ideas?
I am treating the spraddle leg with a rubber band threaded through a short piece of drinking straw with one leg through each end of rubber band. It seems now like it just doesn't know how to take a step forward? I put it's back to a corner of the bin and it try's to walk backward and looks behind it. Then it steps back all the way to the corner and falls forward. It seems like its week legs or ankles are making it find a new way to walk.? Thanks for your help. I will try to find the emergency area to post in.
Just saw this - I would get some sav-a-chick or gro-gel, and I would look into getting some plain niacin powder, adding 100 mg niacin per gallon of drinking water. This could be a niacin deficiency.
