my girls are now 20 weeks old...i have been feeding them layer feed for two weeks now along with oyster shells in many piles throughout the coop..this morning i found an empty shell, very soft and flexable...and a little while later i found just a yolk..odd shaped inside a nest. any suggestions?

thank you so much for the reassuring post...I will be patient with my girls since they are new..and so am I...:)

I am also new to raising chickens and my pullets just started laying too. The first 3 days one of my hens laid two soft-shell eggs a day. The assembly line just needed to get coordinated. Now she is laying a perfect pullet egg each day. Just let her get in the groove, its a complicated system and it doesn't all go online at the same moment. enjoy!!!!

thank you so much! I feel bad for them, having to work so hard at getting the perfect egg :( But I spoil them and they have fresh water everyday and a few times a week they get treats of watermelon, fresh peaches, oatmeal, and alfalfa...plus oyster shells galore and Dunmore layer feed crumbles...they love them!!
