Welcome! I actually just gave 7 mixed chicks to an older couple that my mother in law is friends with. They had kept chickens before, but wanted to keep some again, and had a nice acreage for them. I was happy to enable! This is a great site, we're happy to have you here.

my wife and I am getting older and thought maintenance of our 50+ hens were more then we could do any more but going cold turkey was over kill for us so. We are going to build a smaller chicken tractor. 3-5 hens.

It’s not just the eggs, it’s all the other stuff that we never guessed we would miss.
How calming it is watching the girls go into the coop at night,
Bug control.
I always found one hen to include in my bicycle rides.

So I am looking forward to monitoring this group as we re feather our nest, all be it, with a smaller flock..

Glad you joined us and decided to get yourself a smaller flock. I've limited myself to 6 pullets, had Hubby built 8 x 12 x 7 enclosure to keep myself in check Orpingtons are my "favorite", found 4 works best for the Chicken House and it's more than enough eggs for us. Yes, cleaning & Chicken TV is alot of fun.
