Emu Egg Hatch-along

Pics
What kinds did you get? Where are they coming from?
I got one pullet each of the following : barred rock, black copper marans, barnevelder, bielefelder, black australorp, buff Orpington, brown leghorn (plus one cockerel, so a pair), Columbian rock cross, dark Brahma, golden laced Wyandotte, new Hampshire red (plus one cockerel), olive egger, 2 Rhode Island red pullets, splash laced red Wyandotte, and silver laced Wyandotte.
I picked out the neighbors breeds too and got her a bunch of fun stuff. They've never had chickens before.
I ordered them from Mt. Healthy in Cincinnati. To be shipped to my grandparents house in Northern Ohio where we'll be next week anyway. They couldn't ship to here because of po issues so we'll drive them all home with us.

Try not to worry. I think that's why more experienced hatchers don't bother weighing. Did you do the rates for 17% and 20% to for reference? One of my babies that hatched was supposed to lose 13.5 g per week at 15% and it was always closer to 16 or 17 g per week. It lost 17% total during incubation.

My incubators are never good at humidity. Mine was closer to 20 to 30% during the entire incubation. They say shoot for 35%.
Thank you 🙏 They are around 18% for weight loss. I replaced the current water jar with a slightly wider mouthed jar and it has increased the humidity by about 5% so maybe that will help. I will probably do a mid week check this week!

Sorry everyone! Leaving on a work trip to Ohio on Tuesday morning early so I've been crazy busy getting packed and all of the animals ready. My egg is still in but I've not seen anything at all positive from it. Today is day 50. I can't believe how long it's been. It's not stinking and shockingly is spot on with 15% weight loss. It's been exact every week which is so weird. I don't think it's alive though. I'll be shocked if there was ever any development honestly. But I don't know. How long should I leave it in for? Like I said I'll be gone for the next week, so not sure what to do with it. I'd have for it to start stinking like crazy and mess up my incubator. View attachment 4067172

Maybe you could use the dremel again and make a window to see if you can see veining?? Then you would know for sure, and if it isn’t developed then take it out and enjoy your trip without worrying!

I hope you have a wonderful time, that is so exciting about the next chicks!!!!

Update day 50 This adventure is over.

Next week I'll get 2 chicks,

Hold the egg and bring it up to your ear in a motion like you are taking a drink. Not fast, but not too slow. Do this a few times and see if you feel or hear a slosh. That's what I did and how I knew for sure on this egg and others from last year.
