Emu Egg Hatch-along

It's only been one day?! Why is it taking soooo long 😭

Thanks! What do you feed your chicks? Is shelf liner sufficient in the brooder to give them traction? I usually use puppy pads for my other birds but those can be slippery sometimes. Maybe shelf liner on top would work.
Sorry I haven’t been on in a while. Yes that is exactly what I do. The puppy pads are to slick on their own.
I feed them Fruit Cocktail to get them started. The red of the cherries are particularly appealing to them 🤣.
When is your lockdown date?

Haha! Wow, ok. Good to know! Just the canned stuff?

I'm not sure actually, do you stop turning three days before hatch like with other eggs? Day 52 is March 9th so I guess that would be the 6th? It's pretty much forever away I think, lol.

I stop turning on Day 40 actually.
Average room humidity is 30% BTW so don’t stress overly much about that.
They don’t have a milk tooth on their beak like chickens. They are dependent on their legs to break their shell. Take them a bit longer - those shells are tough!!
I was catching up on the thread posts. They do fight with their feet like Kangaroos, but it is physically impossible for them to kick backwards so that’s where you want to be if you’re trying to “herd” the mob.
And yes the canned stuff.

Oh ok, that's a lot earlier. I'm sure turning that late isn't really necessary anyway, so I guess I'll just plan on stopping then.
Good to know!

I am hatching 4 emu eggs now. It has been something I have wanted to do but never could get the opportunity. First 2 eggs went in the incubator on 1.18.25 and last 2 went in on 1.23.25. I'm hatching along with you. So exciting!!!
Oh awesome! So we're really close then. Feel free to post updates and stuff as well! This will be fun! Best of luck to you and your eggs.
