Emu Egg Hatch-along

Pics
So I am almost positive that I have wiggles in 4 of my eggs - the two from FNF and the two that I bought locally! They are around 37 days now. I am so thrilled that babies are growing!!!!

The last two eggs I have are a week behind and when I pulled them out to watch for wiggles, egg number 5 felt very different… immediately the feel and sound of the egg was different. Like porcelain. Which is something I had read on other emu threads. From my understanding, it means that either the egg is about to hatch (this one is definitely not ready to hatch!) or it is bad. Because it starts to sound like that when the air cell membrane detaches from the wall of the egg. So there is not much hope for that egg now. I did put it back in the incubator because it doesn’t stink, but after being so familiar with how these eggs feel over the last several weeks, this one is definitely off.

Its companion egg still seems normal. Crossing fingers it might be all right. Still no wiggles seen in that one but it is still fairly early as they are at 30 days.

The first 4 that I set should be hatching around Easter, if they continue well!
That's great! Wouldn't it be crazy if you got 5 emu chicks!? All the patiently waiting is paying off in wiggles 🤣

Tada! First baby arrived and it's a white emu with blue eyes!! It hatched on day 50. The other 2 will be at day 50 this Saturday so we'll see if they arrive or wait a few days longer. It is very odd because both are the smallest emu eggs I've incubated, starting at 453 grams each. One has not lost even 15% and the other has lost a little over 20%, but both are wiggling like crazy!

Oh how exciting! Congratulations!

I have to jump in
I’m beyond nervous for the hatching part
Day 45 today
4 eggs all shipped from Ontario to Saskatchewan
3 of the 4 eggs sound like a thud when I tap with my nail and 1 more like a ting
3 stay warmer when left out to cool a bit
Also those 3 all wiggle like crazy ! So I know for sure I have 3 babies in there
It’s the hatching part I worry about
I hear so often full grown chicks don’t make it out
Any advice ?

@New duck mommy 2021 Ooooh so happy to have another emu hatcher here! I am around day 45 as well! And also very nervous for the hatch as this is my first time. I have 6 eggs in and the first 4 are all wiggling like crazy. The 5th egg is not viable (air cell membrane has pulled away from the shell and it now makes a high pitched tink sound when touched) but I have kept it in the incubator since it doesn’t stink. The 6th egg hasn’t wiggled at all and it is on day 38. So I think it hasn’t developed anything.

The race id on :))
I honestly am so excited to hatch these little Dino eggs
I have a pair already and love them so much
River ( male )I got last April at 3 days old from about an hour away from where we lived
Breeze ( female ) I got in July at 4 weeks old from 6 hours away from where we lived
They bonded in no time
Both had goslings with them in the brooders till they were big enough to go outside
Now they still house with the geese
Both go to the barn at night to go to bed with the geese
They never stay out
One day I hope to incubate their eggs ;)

Oh they are gorgeous!!!!! So exciting to add more to your flock! Are your chicks going to standard colored? I am a little nervous about mine, as the humidity was too low in my incubator for the first couple of weeks, and I also raised the temp by one degree about halfway through. So I don’t know if those things will cause problems at hatch.. I know that they can cause problems with chicken chicks.

My temp has been steady at 36.1-36.3
Humidity 30-35 % but has jumped to 40 hours every now and then
Even 12 hours after the same amount is in there so I think that’s the birds loosing moisture
I haven’t been weighing these eggs
So hoping they have lost the correct amount
I have been turning the eggs but sometimes they are not where I set them
Maybe they are trying to get into position
My feeling is day 50-51
But could be later
When I look it up my temp says day 49-51

You don't need to turn them any longer if you still are. I would take them out of the incubator and let them roll into their natural position and then place them back in exactly like they positioned themselves. This will allow the air cell to be in the proper place and the babies to work their magic and get into the right position to hatch. I ran a steady 97.5 Fahrenheit and this baby was the earliest I've ever had hatch late on day 50!
